It is quite common nowadays the use of social media to network, share knowledge, and learn. Project management is one of those domains that we also use social media for.

It is also common to find many groups on social media sites dedicated to project management, especially those sites advocating the PMP certifications and posting questions daily or hourly.

What is the main use of the WBS?

There is a discussion going on on Facebook about WBS and what would be the use of the WBS. Like many PMP questions, the real world answer might be slightly different than the PMP exam.

4–down to top itemes of project

Once again, are the process groups = project phases?

We realize that we discuss this topic often, and others do as well on various online platforms and social media sites. Yet, we continue to see PMPs, PMI Registered Education Providers (REP), “PMP Instructors” confuse this concept and think that the process groups are project phases.

Even when they say they are not the same, once we go into applying the concept, they fall into the trap of “Planning Phase” and “Execution Phase”. Continue reading

Are ISO 21500 or PMBOK Guides methods or methodologies?

Following an earlier post on the difference between method or methodology, it would be useful to revisit a question we often get or hear about. Is the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification, or the PMBOK Guide a methodology?

Although my post below focuses on the PMBOK Guide – most, if not all comments apply to ISO 21500 since it shares a similar structure to the PMBOK Guide.

How has the SUKAD CAMMP™ Model evolved?

I have been privileged in my career.

In a recent article, I have shared some thoughts and reflections on career management and my passion for project management.

I had opportunities to work with great companies after my Masters Degree. My first eight years with Exxon Chemical (before the ExxonMobil years), taught me project management well. In a short eight-year span, Exxon gave me the opportunity to work in estimating, control, project engineering, construction, and project management lead roles on small and multiple projects and on a mega project – from the USA Gulf Coast to Europe, Japan, and South East Asia.

Those years were the foundation for The Customizable and Adaptable Methodology for Managing Projects™.

What do you think about this project management book?

I have been working on two books:

  • The first was about the PMBOK Guide (and ISO 21500) but mostly about how to apply these guides in the real world, and
  • The second book is a re-write of a book we self-published two years ago (Redefining the Basics of Project Management), which focus on The Customizable and Adaptable Methodology for Managing Projects™.

In discussions with a publisher, we have considered merging these two books to deliver a well rounded book. Below, is the structure and high-level content of this book. What do you think? Continue reading
